They should go with "Hands on Me" and release it to Pop and Hot AC.

I'm no expert at choosing hit singles, but imo I don't think they should release Hands on Me. Maybe it's just because I don't like how the studio version turned out. I think they should release Come Undone.

i think it should be Come Undone... minus the intro, of course...

HoM is a not a good idea, IMHO. Vanessa got WAY too much attention for White Houses being all about sex... and that's exactly what going to happen with HoM as well. Granted, that's a very narrow view of the song but it's what's likely to happen. Plus, I just don't see HoM appealing to the general radio audience much like White Houses. Both are catchy songs just not radio-y. :) Deciding what song should be a single isn't so much about which song one "likes" the best but which song will appeal to the largest audience.  Who's To Say should have been the first single from Harmonim, for example.

I'm gonna jump on the Come Undone bandwagon here. The first time I heard Come Undone, I literally froze and thought "SINGLE!" If you cut out the intro and the ending, it's 2:23... which IS a little short. I wonder if she could add to it? If not Come Undone, my vote is for Fools Like Me or possibly My Best. More Than This is one of those amazing songs (like Twilight) that I wish more people could hear but it's just not radio single material. Perhaps Home could be a single later on if she continues to have success with other songs?

Come Undone would actually be a good single - I definitely agree that PYHOM would be too provocative. However, if we're looking for sales, I don't really see a clear single. The only one I would truthfully advise releasing would be Come Undone. Hands on Me is more catchy, I think. I dunno. It's unclear what she can do.
Why don't you come on over? Stop making a fool out of me.

i think My Best will do great as a single..  8)

Maybe an extended version. Anything under 3:30 would be hard to hold a listener's attention.

Actually, studies show that the average human can only pay attention to music for 3 minutes, otherwise they tune out. That's why "radio edits" of songs are generally shorter than album versions.

I think whilst its not my favourite song on the album, Hands On Me would be a good second single. For a start its exactly 3 minutes, and it has a really catchy chorus which is singable and therefore more appealing to an audience. The hook of "Hands On Me" is a bit provocative as well, which I could so see radio stations introducting with a bit of humour..."Vanessa Carlton wants you to put your hands on her.."

I think My Best is a nice song, but the chorus isn't catchy enough or clear enough, so therefore the audience on first-listen would find it hard to like as it does not have clear repition of lyrics and music (ie a chorus). If things aren't repeated, then too many musical ideas hit the listener on the first listen and they can't connect with the song. Radio stations don't play songs unless they are going to keep a listener listening to their station. This same thing applys with "Come Undone" - chorus isn't defined enough in the song.

Hit song = catchy and defined chorus. This is one of the reasons I think nolita fairytale is struggling as it goes to the pre-chorus ("Take away my record deal..") yet the chorus is one line ("I've found some kind of fairytale") and then it goes back to the verse. Repetition is necessary to sustain interest in a listener that isn't aware of the talent V possesses.

In summary, HANDS ON ME  :D

NF has a attentive opening with the drum.

I love to see Spring Street as the 3rd single. I'm obsessed with all the "Nah-Nah-Nah"

I think Spring Steet would be a hit, because of the coming of age thing, it's very popular (think of five for fighting, 100 years?)

and after all these discussions, If vanessa isn't allowed to release another single, I'm gonna kill Irv.
Just kidding. I hope H&T won't meet the same fate as Harmonium. I remember the old forum was excited guessing the second single :([/b]

HOM is the best choice!!! I am so glad that is probably the next single. This will make it or break it. It is the most logical choice for a single just as you all said - catchy, great lyrics, etc. I can see people singing it.

Am I the only one who can't stand Come Undone? She is off key when she sings “ahhh” and it aggravates me like nails on a chalk board. If she wasn't off key I would definately enjoy the song. Please - no releasing of off key songs as singles!

And spring street - I didn't like it very much the first time I heard it but once I got the lyrics sheet, I really like it. But is definitely not single material. No way. It's not catchy - it's too slow for that. The nah-nahs are annoying and not unique enough for it to be the chorus you want people singing in the store.

I think Home and The One are great next choices for singles, after HOM. Great choices V!!! I know this will get her back on the radio!

Neither do I.

It's a nice song, but should stay on the album.
