skye steele amateur?

Dear Vanessa and any member of her management team who may read this post,

I recently saw Vanessa in SF at the Swedish American Music Hall and need to express some concerns I had with the show.

As usual, Vanessa's vocals and piano sounded great.    However, the violin sounded as though it was being played by an amateur and, as a consequence, detracted from the performance as a whole.  Judging by his performance in SF, Skye has a difficult time playing in tune. Rather than accentuating the emotional aspect of the music, it created a stuttering, screeching accent that opposed the sweetness and flow of the vocals and piano.   Vanessa, you are a Grammy nominated musician and you should be playing with people who play at your level rather then level of an amateur.  I love the idea of having a violin but they need to play professionally.

I was surprised at the show when someone shouted their admiration for Skye.  This person must have been a relative or a friend, because the people around me looked equally as shocked as I.   Perhaps this played into the reason why people were leaving early.  Perhaps Skye was having a bad day.  Regardless, those who applaud Skye's performance at the SF show clearly were not listening to the music objectively.

The music industry needs Vanessa to succeed to help cleanse it  from the mess brought on by the likes of Britney Spears.  Please Vanessa and anyone of influence who is reading this make the appropriate changes to facilitate Vanessa's success.

Martin.

He's better than the violinist she had with her before she went on tour at least.

An interesting tidbit for this show is Vanessa didn't have her regular piano, so it is possible Skye was playing the regular notes which mesh well with V's regular piano, and because V was using the loner (most likely the venue piano) that may have accounted for some out-of-tuneness.

I personally think Skye has done a great job judging from the show I saw and the videos of other shows that I've seen.

I have to completely DISAGREE! I think Skye has been doing an EXCELLENT job!! I saw him at the Ivar Theater show in L.A. and he was so talented and added so much to the show! The music was beautiful! And I also saw him at the end of the show and he was so nice!

Seriously? Wow. I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion but I went to the first 7 shows of this tour. Tonight is the 8th show of the tour which, obviously I am not at but Skye has been and is nothing but professional. Maybe you should check out his website read his bio and check out all the projects he's worked on.

Skye has added so much to this tour and compliments Vanessa really well. The SF show was only the 4th show of the tour and he was on fire! He has only gotten better and better as he was/is still learning and memorizing his part. Maybe he made a mistake, so did V, who cares, they are human and it was live!

My friends and I are super excited that Skye is on this tour, he's awesome.

BTW I edited your title because you spelled his last name wrong.

I agree that the violin adds to her music, but his violin does not.  I will admit that I am judging his performance based on one show.  If that performance is the indication of how he sounds then I am concerned.  I did take your advice and I visited his website.  My opinion is reinforced.  Perhaps, listeners on this site do not know what a violin is really supposed to sound like.  People should listen to the performances objectively, not from the standpoint of a "nessaholic" who worships everything in association with Vanessa.  I think  you will then understand the purpose of my comments which is not to be a jerk, but to facilitate Vanessa's success.

I did not see her on the television shows with another violinist.  Can anyone tell me how to view the performances?  It would be interesting to compare.

I was at the SF show as well and thought he did great! He really complimented her!
