I feel as if she's so far past even giving a crap, but that's who she is. She's probably not going to apologize for it. Why do it, that's her personality. And if you really think that she's C listed and is extremely innappropriate....shut the hell up and leave. Haha that's Vanessa.

I don't agree. I think we all appreciate Vanessa for who she is, but there is a time to be appropriate. When she can't act her age and sing the few songs she is famous for to get people to maybe listen to her again, then that's not okay and very unprofessional. I think we all like Vanessa for many of the same reasons, including her personality onstage, but because we like Vanessa, I hope that the nessaholics can realize there is a time where she can say fuck all she wants- at her shows when she is actually on tour, and when she is invited to perform at Disney.

Vanessa is a grown-up and she swears. A bunch of us swear! Tons of musical acts swear! She just happened to swear at Disney. She swears "on purpose" at her shows because she does in real life! Just like normal people!

It's the fact that it was at Disney that this was even a big deal. And, like someone already mentioned, Disney was cool with Miley pole-dancing at the VMAs or where ever? I really hate Disney. They are a ridiculously uptight entity with too many double standards.

I dont support anything disney but i support there decision...they are PAYING her too play....and there are rules...if she can't follow suite, that makes me her look like a big idiot....her swearing is TOTALLY staged just like mostly everything she says...most of the time..when shes touring.....but the last thing an artist does is wanna piss off disney....that miley pole dance was even that bad...c'mon people....teenagers are going to be teenagers with or without miley cyrus in their life...cursing at a concert is different story especially at a disney event u are getting PAID for.

I think it's the little kids that look up to Miley that everyone is referring to. I'm not really sure of any teenagers that even idolize her. Little kids, yes, so I believe Miley's pole-dancing is inappropriate for her type of audience.

As for Vanessa, I feel as though she should have regarded the warning, especially since she's losing popularity...

don't worry hun I don't really check this board like I used to. Pop in and out monthly noew you know, just to check the insanity of some nessaholics, who always and never stop worshiping VC. I am so happy for VC to have an online entourage who never ceases saying "VANESSA YOU ARE PERFECT" 24/24, to keep her swearing for the sake of her unique personality that we all love and adore and admire. People love hearing her saying FCK cause it is the best promotion A&M or Murder Inc. could possibly ever have done to promote her as a friendly ordinary easy-to-relate singer. This will definitely push H&T's sales!

I will never regret moving to Jewel. I'm not a hardcore VC fan anymore but definitely will keep supporting her if she has any future music (go listen to Afterglow to remember the once goldenage of Vanessa Carlton)

VC's professional career officially ends here. She is not even C ranked

What does the C ranked mean  ???

a WHILE WHILE WHILE ago, way before the release of H&T, when the official forum was still the Harmonium-theme, someone started a discussion whether Vanessa is an A-listed celebrity, or just B or worse, C-listed celebrity. I was a little mad and upset when I read that, cause I didnt want to believe Vanessa's career would never get back up again.

but guess what, she performed for Disney World without anyone knowing that (I dont see any topics or news alerts) and then got replaced by a LOCAL BAND!!
VANESSA CARLTON, who has probably one of the biggest and most memorable song of all time, who made appearances in the Grammy, TRL, American Music Awards etc..... sadly has ended up like this.

...I dont know what to write for my eulogy

If you think Disney is the best place a musician can end up you are sadly mistaken in that Disney has never put out quality music that touches the soul, it is a small world after all, that is cute, and for children.

Vanessa is so not Disney. Disney is not quality music. This is their mistake to book someone who does not fit their image, whatever image that is, it is fake, it is illusion, and not reality, all of which Vanessa is NOT as a serious musician.

Whoever is saying her career is rock bottom and Afterglow is her golden age has yet to hear her last album or is unaware she is producing most of the tracks on her new one. She is just becoming more sophisticated as a musician which is about making music and not about an image.

Most fans know she is not image, is not Beyonce hits who no one will remember in 20 years, academy awards, lol, this is sadly not the epitome of music regardless however much corporate America markets it as such. They are after dollars from empty souls while Vanessa is about music that touches our soul truly.

The best music as of right now will not be featured at the academy awards, it will not be shown on MTV most likely, and it will not be a pop 20 hit that will be forgotten next year, the best and most important music being made now is indie music which I hope Vanessa fully goes as an artist.

Nessa fans know who she is, after White Houses, she seems to know making great music is not dependent on music labels and record deals that come full with them deciding what is the sound of the moment and try to pressure her into it, and while she might not get Disney gigs or mainstream radio coverage, it is nothing to lament over, she has a core audience and I will go out and buy every album however it is distributed.

I am sad that Vanessa ended up getting kicked out of the show with a reputation fell like a rock. Hope you were just being sarcastic when you say I think "Disney is the best place a musician can end up". If you think that was what I meant, recommend reading my post again.

This is my opinion, but saying image can be careless is bullsh**. The image is the first thing that slaps you in the face thus giving what quality can you expect from an artist. It totally reflects the artist as a whole and her bodies of works. I do not have a single problem with Vanessa's cursing. But everyone, well obviously except for some nessaholics, finds it disturbing that she cursed even after the warning from Disney. so what kind of real image do you think VC is? A girl who walks around cursing whenever she feels like it? Hell yes everyone does that. But being a musician, a real musician, aren't you, in your fans' view, a role model- an artist with such strong conscience and morals whose songs and musics help you through your hard times? Im taking a risk here but I can say that no one will ever get VC's music if she says "fck" in ATM in the first place. If VC really is someone who is independent and withstanding, and cursing is her nature and we all support "freedom of speech", then why didnt she say the word in the first place?

Ive never seen her live but from what I have been following, she cursed lately in small shows (as her career is going down, ok, in terms of sales). You may argue that when she curses+small shows=> the real Vanessa Carlton, the real music, the real image, real quality... I don't buy that. Like many people state above, she probably tries to make the show intimate and personal, which Im 100% support, but I think she's losing control and becoming rebellious as a result of stress from the disappointment after H&T. She poured her souls and tears into it and yet it wasnt well received.

I agree about the Grammy and MTV being garbage these days. But im not sure about going indie. Fans have long saying they are fine with her going indie. i feel a doubt. She once sold millions, had great video, performing live in famous places. Do you think she will be able to do all that when she goes indie? (im sorry i have no idea what indie artists are like?) I mean what is the fun when she releases a CD and that's it? She may perform here and there, back in the clubs and street venues stuff like that but no official video on youtube, on TV, no video, no performing in TV show? Charlotte Martin was super when she was trying mainstream. and she just released a CD I have no idea. and nothing else. all silence. same with Sugar Ray.

I dont know about you but I love seeing Vanessa doing stuffs. I cant just stare at the CD (even if she is able to release physically). and Im from Vietnam, Im not even in the States and the only way I can feel her is to see her. Is that possible if you go indie? or do you want cut all the fans to get her to yourself?

Sometimes I am pissed at fans who just want Vanessa for themselves. "OMG I wish we could stay like this forever, just us a little group and Vanessa. we know everything about Vanessa, her rare songs and laugh at people face when they wonder why Ordinary Day's live was different". I really dont know what to start on this. It's great that we have a group, but wanting Vanessa to go totally off mainstream so only us know her music => somehow makes it the best music in the world. better than anything else. especially compared to mainstream songs. and we are the best people, best fans for having the best music and artist...
....
omfg i hate it so much when people say that. I am so sorry your.dying.wish, but declaring such a fake fact: "Indie music is the best music" is such nonsense. I know it is all opinions, but to make your opinions valid you have to have proof and evidence. Alanis Morissette and Jewel and Garbage and Michelle Branch are still making music. and it is debatable whether any of them is good (depends on your taste), but they are still making great music, and I can say that because they produce/play and write heartfelt lyrics. and they are efffing MAINSTREAM. I am upset at your bringing Beyonce up. I have never like her as a idol but she writes her freaking songs and dances her ass off and sings her heart out and seriously, paying to her is one of the worthiest entertainment thing you could get (please dont tell me music is not entertainment) because the woman is passionate and does everything the best she can.

and btw Vanessa has been writing her songs since the first album so in case you didnt know that you would only say this :"Whoever is saying her career is rock bottom and Afterglow is her golden age has yet to hear her last album or is unaware she is producing most of the tracks on her new one"   again, opinions here, whichever era you want to choose as her golden age

I don't think shes ever been on a list. Does that fucking matter anyway?  She is a talented muscian, not some person your going to see on the cover of tabloids...that was never a life VC wanted or a life that any of us would want for her..she makes great music..she had an album and song that sold enough for her to probably live a lifetime on....she is comfortable in her own skin....If I didn't know VC's music and live show antiques...I would have totally pinned her for the perfect match for a Disney concert....I mean, if I didn't know VC i'd be saying "yeah, a thousand miles, ordinary day, perfect, clean, fun pop songs".  Perfect.  Who cares if she isn't as publicized and talked about as much as she used too...she doesn't seem to mind..why should we? as long as we keep getting new music..there really is no need for any of us to even concern ourselves with that.  It happens to artists all the time, especially ones with dedicated fanbases...it really does happen a lot and it's probably happened to a lot of people you used to listen too in 2002.

No need to be sad and her reputation is not going to suffer.

This is my opinion, but saying image can be careless is bullsh**. The image is the first thing that slaps you in the face thus giving what quality can you expect from an artist. It totally reflects the artist as a whole and her bodies of works. I do not have a single problem with Vanessa's cursing. If VC really is someone who is independent and withstanding, and cursing is her nature and we all support "freedom of speech", then why didnt she say the word in the first place?

I am going to say that 'everyone found it disturbing' is just not true in that most people most likely do not even know this happened or would care. Image in the way you are discussing it, more as in reputation, and image the way I was discussing it, total manufactured and fake concept in hope it will resonate and sell more, are not the same exact thing.

I am pretty sure her reputation is in tact and if anything cussing at Disney could in no way hurt sales, it is not like people will stop buying Nessa CDs because now she is a negative influence on children, she does not make children's music for that to happen, she is not Hannah Montana.

I am not going to guess about her stress or disappointment and her lack of sales has nothing to do whatsoever with the quality of her music. Good sales is really equal to good marketing and distribution which is something that the labels control. If they have five albums to put out they are going to spend most of their money advertising one of them, the one they think will bring them the most money back, it will be the album that has elements that appeal to the lowest common denominator of persons, it will also target the main audience they are trying to capture, and whatever it is most likely will be top ten rubbish that is out as soon as it is in.

The fact that this is the type of audience we are dealing with, one who wants fast music, one wants the latest hit, and who listens to commercials and other advertisements to decide what is good music now and what they should be doing to fit in with the rest of the world, in other words it is a market of sheeple who are a marketers dream.

This is not the type of audience Vanessa is going for and that has been clear since her earliest interviews. She is not trying to aim for top ten hit music.

Is that possible if you go indie? or do you want cut all the fans to get her to yourself?

Again this is about a business decision in who labels want to market and in turn that means their other acts suffer including Vanessa when she first tried them. Also indie is not as obscure as that anymore. There are videos, quality produced ones, on Youtube of many indie acts, as well as live shows, which can be more quality in some cases than what is recorded as the studio version, there are a few clips of Vanessa live as well in these intimate venues that you seem to equate with failure.

It is not so much as that as most true fans knowing that in order for Vanessa to sell millions and have these magnificently large shows that it means she is part of the mainstream racket where she is controlled by the label, that would mean they would advertise someone else's album over hers, all her concerts and such would be under their mercy, which means she might never have any because they do not have the time, effort, or money to book them since they are focusing on other acts, in turn she cannot even choose to play where she wants for breach of contract, look I might be all wrong about the specifics but it would strip her of her soul, and I doubt she would still make songs or do shows as the one on Youtube where she sings London, which just listening made me cry cause it made me reflect on myself, when is the last time a mainstream artist made me cry listening to a low-quality video recording of their live show on a song that is not even released by them? Never....cause the label would not allow it to begin with and mainstream music just does not touch my soul.

omfg i hate it so much when people say that. I am so sorry your.dying.wish, but declaring such a fake fact: "Indie music is the best music" is such nonsense. I know it is all opinions, but to make your opinions valid you have to have proof and evidence. Indie is nice, go listen to groups like Au Revoir Simone, Lykke Li, Peter, Bjorn, and John, Santigold, Metric, Feist or even less known groups like We See Lights, Laura Veirs, or Sunset Rubdown, all who get play on the all night indie show, at least here on one of the local university radio stations.

Opinions indeed.

and btw Vanessa has been writing her songs since the first album so in case you didnt know that you would only say this :"Whoever is saying her career is rock bottom and Afterglow is her golden age has yet to hear her last album or is unaware she is producing most of the tracks on her new one"   again, opinions here, whichever era you want to choose as her golden age

It is much too soon in her career to speak of golden ages but it will never he her first studio album, it will never be ATM video, or a large venue concert, that is not how Nessa will be defined, but I can understand for those who are just into mainstream music, whose only exposure to Nessa was the ATM video, for them to think so, sadly they have not discovered the true Vanessa, but it is not sad in that oh poor Vanessa she is not going to be noticed by the top ten radio, no it is more sad in that many people have such a limited view of music and much less exposure to quality music which truly makes our world a more beautiful place...but top ten can be fun too for a bit I just doubt I will listen to the same stuff on the radio now in ten years, but Vanessa I will.

This was EXTREMELY unprofessional. Vanessa swears purposely during shows- it causes a laugh and makes her appear more relatable and "cool."

Okay, we get it Vanessa, there is obviously a reason why you have nessaholics, you don't need to put on a front. It would be another thing if she did it once, and when asked to stop, she did. But to continue to swear, at Disney for Christ's sake, just shows how unprofessional she can be.

Vanessa is irrelevant right now as much as we hate to admit, and she knows it herself. This is the kind of show where she should play ATM, Ordinary Day, White Houses, and then pick up her paycheck and go home and smoke a bowl. She can do whatever she wants at her own shows, but this just makes her look tacky, which is not what she needs right now.

Sadly, I agree.

I agree as well.
I just can't see her going indie and being very successfull, especially with her not being very active on the internet.  The internet plays a huge part in promotiong yourself and keeping your key fanbase up to date....I see, signing with a THIRD label....not good.

Of course we all want to see her do well, but I don't think it's appropriate to try and figure out what 'class' or whatever shes in.  She's a musician, not a celebrity. I feel like we care more than she does...fuck it..as long as I get new music one way or another, I'm happy.

Wonder if shes still considering doing film scores?

She is whatever she wants to be. I am sure she made enough on her first album to allow her to make music on her own terms. I see her like an Aimee Mann. Putting out what she wants to and playing for the sake of playing. At the end of the day she only has to answer to herself.

If anyone sank her career it is her tard ex boyfriend. Seems quite clear that he used her to further his "producer" ambitions and she was wrapped around his finger. Good to see the latest 3EB disk is tanking. After all the guy was really nothing but a early 90's pop singer.

Let Vanessa do what she wants, and enjoy whatever she puts out. Who cares if she is not in the top 10, it is her life to live.

Vanessa doesn't really sell any records, she doesn't really go to any parties or events, and she doesn't really seem to care much. I doubt this will affect anything at all. If any of you are disappointed that she swore at this concert, you need to wake up. She swears all the time, as do tons of adults. She is her own person and doesn't appear to give much of a hoot what anyone thinks of her, even her fans. She doesn't go out of her way to make connections with anyone here; she graciously signs autographs after shows but really, she does her thing and will continue to do so even if the people here are overly critical of her. I appreciate her tendency to do her own thing; it makes her very real for me.
