Alright, I've mentioned this in a few odd places, and I want to try pitching it over here where it matters...listening to the live performances at the radio stations, I'm sure now that she's singing "I lied, wrote my injuries all in the dust" instead of "I lie, put my injuries all in the dust." I think you can hear it especially clearly on the recording that also has the Ordinary Day (Divide and Conquer) performance...

Wrote my injuries in the dust? I believe that's a biblical reference.

The only thing I can think of is the "those without sin shall cast the first stone"  And the thought that when He bent down and wrote in the sand He was writting the sins of the scribes and Pharisees . . .but. . .

What do you think it references?

Was exactly what I was thinking. A sin is sometimes called an injury or a wrongdoing.

Vanessa doesn't exactly strike me as a devout Christian, so I'm sure she picked up an adapted version from another literary work. That, or it was completely coincidental.

Errrrrrm....I can't hear "of" at all in there...it really sounds like "or" in all of the live versions and even the studio recording...

About the biblical reference...didn't she once say that her father is Catholic? I don't think it's too far fetched for her to have heard the verse somewhere and decided to use it...

In her TRL performance yesterday it sounded like 'I lied, wrote my injuries all in the dust'...
