VC Song Interpretations

my interpritation of carnival was that maybe she's not happy with the way her relationship is working and she's thinking of letting it go but she doesn't want to. like "never thought it'd hurt so bad...i just wanted to love you" and then "don't you run from the show cause i just want you to know that i love any way and i will not let you go, but you run every day and i CAN'T KEEP CHASING YOU through this old carnival where the sun shines..." etc. i dunno if that's it but that's how i saw it after i listened to it a few times... and i kind of feel like the way i interpret that song is how i feel right now.

Quote from: "magichat101"
i think swindler is about a guy that came on the vanessa and wanted to have a sexual relationship but was already married and she also knew the guy well like he was her friend for a couple of year. and the guy only was talking to her for sex

"hey mister married man I know you"ll come again till you find just what your looking for"

"and now I understand just how you work your plan first your warm and then you just burn"

still trying to figure swindler out...but that could very well be it.

Things are going crazy and I'm not sure who to blame...
November 9th 2004...H a r m o n i u m!!!
Spare me just three last words, I love you is all she heard...

I think Wonder is about a lesson VC learned.  That lesson is:

If you don't know why you're doing something, get lost, or if things are not working out, to start from the begining again.  I get the impression of a dance in a recital(even though I haven't had the experience of one) or like she did when she changed careers from the music somehow.

Paradise & Twilight
« Reply #48 on: June 29, 2005, 08:29:39 pm »
Ok, so my threads have been moved around but finally, here's it's permanent home...lol:

Paradise

once upon a year gone by
she saw herself give in
every time she closed her eyes
she saw what could have been
well nothing hurts and nothing bleeds
when covers tucked in tight
funny when the bottom drops
how she forgets to fight...to fight

and it's one more day in paradise
one more day in paradise

as darkness quickly steals the light
that shined within her eyes
she slowly swallows all her fear
and soothes her mind with lies
well all she wants and all she needs
are reasons to survive
a day in which the sun will take
her artificial light...her light

don't pretend to hold it in just let it out
don't pretend to hold it in just push it out
don't you try to hold it in just let it out and
don't you try to hold it in you hold it in

once upon a year gone by
she saw herselg give in
every time she closed her eyes
she saw what could have been

I think this song is about a woman who felt very submissive, subordinant, and spineless in the relationship she was in and when she finally breaks apart from this person her feelings are getting lower and lower than it was before because she hasn't truly found herself yet. In a way, the "paradise" is just bliss within ignorance as some would say.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Twilight

I was stained, with a role,
in a day not my own
but as you walked into my life
you showed what needed to be shown
and I always knew, what was right
I just didn't know that I might
peel away and choose to see
with such a different sight

and I will never see the sky the same way,
and I will learn to say good-bye to yesterday
and I will never cease to fly if held down,
and I will always reach too high cause I've seen,
cause I've seen, twilight

never cared never wanted
never sought to see what flaunted
so on purpose so in my face
couldn't see beyond my own place
it was so easy not to behold what I could hold
but you taught me I could change
whatever came within these shallow days

as the sun shines through it pushes away
and pushes ahead
it fills the warmth of blue
and leaves a chill instead and
I didn't know that I could be
so blind to all that is so real
but as illusion dies
I see there is so much to be revealed

I was stained, by a role,
in a day not my own
but as you walked into my life
you showed what needed to be shown
I always knew what was right
I just didn't know that I might
peel away and choose to see
with such a different sight

I think this song is about how perfect a relationship she had with someone was and now that it's over she has set her expectations too high to where no one can ever compare and because of this, she is alone. Stained because it will never leave her mind that someone will never measure up.
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."

San Francisco

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID, LIKE A BOY OF SUMMER GIVES HIS FIRST KISS
LOVE IS DANCING ON MY FINGER,
HE GOT TO THE HEART OF THE MATTER AND LINGERED
NOW I'M WALKING WITH THE LIVING
I ALWAYS LIKED STEINBACK AND THOSE OLD MEN WHISTLING

WE'RE BACK, WE'RE BACK IN SAN FRANCISCO
WE'RE BACK AND YOU TELL ME I'M HOME

TALKING IN THE MISSION OVER COFFEE
THIS IS MY EUTOPIA, MAN, I'LL BE YOUR LADY
AS THE OCEAN RISES AND THE SUN IS FADING

WE'RE BACK, WE'RE BACK IN SAN FRANCISCO,
WE'RE BACK, WE'RE BACK IN SAN FRAN

AND NOW I FEEL THE EVER AFTER
OVER RED WINE ON THE EVE OF SUMMER
THE BUZZ, THE BUZZ OF THE CITY AS WE SETTLE IN IT'S MAJESTY

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LIKE A BOY OF SUMMER GIVES HIS FIRST KISS
YOU TELL ME I'M HOME...YOU TELL ME I'M HOME
BACK IN SAN FRANCISCO
I KNOW WHAT YOU DID BACK IN SAN FRANCISCO

What do you all think of this one?
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."

Afterglow

JUST WHEN THE DAYS START GETTING COLDER,
I WALK THE STREETS I NEVER KNEW
THERE'S SOME WORDS, I NEVER TOLD YOU,
THE SOUND RINGS OUT LIKE THE TRUTH

AND IF YOU COULD SEE, WHAT'S COME OVER ME, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW
CAUSE I'M WALKIN' FREE, THE WIND AT MY BACK, BATHED IN AFTERGLOW

AS I SIT HERE IN THIS DARK ROOM, ALL I SEEM TO FEEL IS LIGHT
I SEE COLOR, I SEE THE MAROON IN THE BLOOD OF THIS LIFE...THAT'S OURS

AND IF YOU COULD SEE, WHAT'S COME OVER ME THEN YOU WOULD KNOW
CAUSE I'M WALKIN' FREE, THE WIND AT MY BACK, BATHED IN AFTERGLOW

WATCH THE SUN IT PAINTS AN ORANGE SKY
LAY ME DOWN AND FEEL THE DAYS GONE BY

JUST WHEN THE DAYS START GETTING LONGER
I WALK THE STREETS I NEVER KNEW...THE SUN COMES OUT FOR YOU

AND IF YOU COULD SEE, WHAT'S COME OVER ME, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW
CAUSE I'M WALKIN' FREE, THE WIND AT MY BACK, BATHED IN AFTERGLOW
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."

Private Radio

ALL THE WORLD HAS GONE TO BED, AND I'M DROWNING IN IT'S SILENCE
BUT A SOLITUDE LIVES IN MY HEAD FROM YOU, BABY.
AND IF THIS SILENCE WAS A SONG,
IT'S RHYTHM GROOVES AND IT'S A PRIVATE RADIO
AND ON THIS NIGHT I DO BELONG IN HARMONY
YOU CAN'T DENY ME, YOU WILL OBLIGE ME, IT'S MY MELODY

WHEN THE NIGHT COMES AND NO ONE KNOWS
I CAN HEAR IT, I GOT MY PRIVATE RADIO

FIND ME OUT OF MY PILLOW
CAUSE I'M LYIN' HERE BUT I'M READY GOOD TO GO
AND ON A WHIM I LEAVE THIS TOWN
OR NOT I'LL STAY AND CHASE THE SUN DOWN
YOU CAN'T DENY ME, YOU WILL OBLIGE ME, IT'S MY MELODY

WHEN THE NIGHT COMES AND NO ONE KNOWS
I CAN HEAR IT, I GOT MY PRIVATE RADIO

CATCH ME NOT, CAN'T CALL ME LATER. MORNING'S RISING

ALL THE WORLD HAS GONE TO BED
AND THERE'S A SOUND INSIDE MY HEAD
AND IN THE DARK INSIDE MY BED
THE MELODY THAT'S IN MY HEAD

WHEN THE NIGHT COMES AND NO ONE KNOWS
I CAN HEAR IT, I GOT MY PRIVATE RADIO

What do you guys think?
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."

Private Radio is about Insomnia isn't it?

Afterglow is about sex...hence the title afterglow. http://www.dictionary.com

Hey what is Half A Week Before The Winter about? That song is creepy...

HAWBTW is a metaphor for the music industry. The unicorns are talented musicians (such as V) who aren't given a chance because they are killed and brought down by the vampires. The vampires would be, for example, Vanessa's old record label A&M, or the talentless people who claim to be musicians that suck up all the spotlight.

The Wreckage

The Wreckage

SPEEDING
INTO THE HORIZON
DREAMING OF THE SIREN
WISHING FOR HER BROKEN GLASS
ON THE HIGHWAY
IT COULD BE SO EASY

THE RHYTHM
RHYTHM OF AN ENGINE
ALWAYS MAKES ME EMPTY
I SEE THE HEADLIGHTS COMING AT ME
I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER

FLYING
FLYING IN SLOW MOTION
WIND THROUGH MY HAIR AND
RIPPING THROUGH THE SCENERY
THAT'S MADE OF THE WRECKAGE
IT IS NOT A SECRET

SPEEDING
INTO THE HORIZON
DREAMING OF THE SIREN
WISHING FOR HER BROKEN GLASS
ON THE HIGHWAY
IT COULD BE SO EASY

What about "The Wreckage"?
"If only I could get into that corner of your head."

I wouldn't think so because the one in "The One" never could see how special Vanessa (or the singer, if it's told from another person's point of view) was until it was too late.
