Pop Idol drives me bloody mad!!

I mean, okay...she breaks the mould, but only coz she's too big for it! (No, I don't have anything against fat people, I'm just really mad right now :x ).
It just really annoys me how none of them really break the mould. I mean musically. They just keep unleashing more bubblegum pop into the world and it drives me craaaaaaazy and it turns poor little innocent kids and naive teenage girls brains to mush!!!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Okay...I'm done now.

I'm not dissing her voice or your home town or her or anything like that,
It's just the whole concept of "Pop" Idol that annoys me.

I certainly have nothing against you, Scott.

Well Michelle is certainly not "bubblegum pop" we have the Cheeky Girls for that and as u say none of the really break the mould musically, but michelle has done that she has proven that its not all about the image its about the music.

She recently won the newest Pop Idol in Britain. She may not look like the image of a popstar but her voice is really amazing and when I first heard her, I was blown away. Her newest single is "All This Time". I would definately suggest the people in the U.S. to give it a listen. Its really nice.

Her single sounds identical to 'Evergreen' and i don't think her voice is that great. However, people should stop ripping her for her weight.

I've been thinking about Michelle recently.

It's a great thing in principle to have somebody that goes against the usual popstar image actually having some success. But the sad truth is that the people who market bad music with the usual sexy image are the same people who are marketing her as "standing strong against the shallow pop image". The pop industry doesn't care about double standards, just money. They'll play on that marketing hook for a while, make some money and then dump her when the public gets bored. The same thing happened with Rick Waller (Another fat pop idol). It's niave to think she will change anything as far as the image and  integrity of music goes. She's just going to get used and spat out. It's sad but true. If I was a betting man I'd put my life on it.

No artist will ever change the industry. They don't have any power to. The only way anything can change is if the record buying public stop buying pop music. IMHO people need to take the time to investigate different music, rather than just buying whatever has a "catchy" beat because that's what is shoved in front of their faces. If people actually do that and the masses still want pop music, I'll eat my hat. But people never will and it saddens me :(

After reading back, I realised I went into preacher mode there. Sorry :-\ But I still stand by it.

You know, if she had the most amazing voice ever then fair play, i'd say she was good- but she ISNT. And "oooh isn't it great the pop mould has been broken" it has been before- just look at a lot of the 'Divas"-Aretha Franklin wasn't exactly thin, nor was Chaka Khan or umm Barry White (lol). Its not a case of her breaking the mould, and even then thats not good enough justification for letting her be a popstar- teenage girls voted for her because then they felt better about their weight, and so did tons of middle aged women for the same reason, oh along with the WHOLE of Scotland voting. That gives you a winner, but she won't last- and you know it.
