no it's not a pointless poll!  you see, if more people pick 1024 x 768 then we know most likely those people have a Windows xp machine.  If people pick 800 x 600, then we know that most people are still using Windows ME or 2000 or 98. then so on and so forth...

actually, your resolution depends on your video card and monitor not your operating system.   I ran 1280x1024 on windows 98 two years ago



Also windows ME has graphics capabilities equal to windows xp
