Olympics - Athens 2004
« on: August 14, 2004, 03:22:22 pm »
Moderators, I swear I looked in the other folders where I imagine something like the Olympics should be mentioned.

Anyway, am I the only one out here who loves it when the Olympics come around?  I always make sure I'm home to watch the opening and closing ceremonies.  I love the pageantry and symbolism of the games.  I love watching the lighting of the caldron.  And I love learning of the existence of teeny, tiny nations in the world because they’ve sent an athlete to the Olympics (i.e. Vanuatu, Nauru, Kiribati, Seychelles, Lesotho, Sao Tome and Principe, Dominica - which is not to be confused with the Dominican Republic)

 ::olympic::

yay, I got to use the olympic smilies  :bday:

and yay for countries that are new to me!

I totally love the Olympics too. I had a little party. Made some pad thai and watched.

I have been watching most of the day today as well. I can't believe our women got beat by China in volleyball. Well it was a good match.

I love gymnastics!! In 96 I spent thousands of dollars to go to Atlanta but out of 8 days of gymanstics I got 0. We ended up with Volleyball and baseball. Which was cool.

I like them too :) It just feels weird to think 4 years have gone by so fast...

If I get the chance to (and manage to find out when they're actually shown on tv!) I'd love to watch horse jumping, swimming and gymnastics the most. Oh and this girl I know (whose surname is the same as mine even though we're not related at all!) is in the Spanish hockey team!! How cool is that? :D Apparently some friends of mine saw her on tv yesterday during the opening ceremony but I missed it  :?

there's only four seasons
and this one's almost gone
these nights feel so good
but this one's almost gone

I saw the Swedes entering. Talk about hot. Also . . . I watched a volleyball match between the States and Norway and I was totally going for Norway. The Americans were pissing me off. All cocky and shit.

aah woo! so it's not only Rosie and me! lol
I love the Olympics and I've been watching a bunch of it. Today I watched Brazil kick Australia's butt in men's volleyball lol no I'm kidding it was actually a harder game than I thought it'd be.
Yesterday was cool cuz Brazil crushed the Japanese women's basketball team... 120something - 60 something.
Anywho, Brazil is going pretty bad lol but I don't care... I still like watching it and woo I hope Phelps win everything haha

Aah I loved this thread!

I managed to go to the gymnastics TWICE in Sydney!!
And the tennis :-)

gosh I saw that game! :-) bbooo Brazil!!! :-P
Thorpe aka THORPEDO will win EVERYTHING! :-)

I can't believe it's been 4 years since Sydney!
*cries emo tears*
WHERE DID TIME GO!!!

I loved the opening ceremony ... but WT was Bjork on about? You're sweat is salty?
I do believe it was better than sydney.
The only thing is the time difference is KILLING me ...
Day in Europe is middle night in Oz ... I have to watch everything repeated. Never live :-( Unless I stay up til like 12am to 6am!
suck.
But Australia won 2 gold already! :-)
and a world record!

Wow, that's awesome Zena. I would have died to go to gymnastics. women's prelims air tonight. I can't wait . I can't believe we have two women over 20 (Go Mo!!) and two Courtney's. Carly Patterson is pretty awesome too. I still am not sure I agree with the way they built the team but it looks like a great one.

You are behind cause you guys have 4 gold. We only have 1 (Phelps also a WR) so far.

Yes!!!! Ahahahahaha.  That's so not right that the USA sends N-frickin'-BA players to the Olympics.

I'm thrilled the US Men's Basketball team lost.  Hah!  They need a reality check.  They're always so damn cocky.

Remember when they lost that pre-olympic match about a week ago, too?

Ahahahahahahahaha.
