My sunday has so far consisted of doing laundry cuz my new kitty pooped on all my stuff. Anyone got any litter training advice?

Training?

Typically if you don't leave anything around that's MORE ineteresting to them then you don't have to do any training.

It is VERY important not to leave piles of  clothes on the floor though.  Cats see those as being almost as useful as litter.

If you keep clothing off the floor and make sure the litter box is 1) Accessible and 2) clean then there shouldn't be any problems.  You probably need to clean it 3-4 times a week in a small apt.

When one of my cats was peeing in every corner of my appartment, I bought a spraying can thing, it's called *going to check* "Training Aid"
I sprayed it on the places where she peed a lot, and since then, she has only had "an accident" once.

Also, I am using "Deo fresh", it's something you have to put on the litter in the box, it makes it smell better (for you and for the cat)

Leave the litter box in the same place at all times.

Oh, and I clean the litter box at least twice a day (I have a rather small appartment, and 2 cats)

Cats

Scoop up the poop and put it in the litter tray, then show the cat what you've done and it should get the message. Hopefully...

He's not entirely joking.  You actually can train you cat to use a toilet.

you can actually train cats to do alot of things - they learn really well by sounds like clicking rather than spoken commands like you do with a dog. The trick is to keep their attention, which can be a lot harder to do with cats.

I would try rewarding it with a treat or with a toy after it uses the litter box - positive reinforcement almost always works. just vary the reinforcement otherwise it could get bored quickly.

I've never had to train my cats.  I showed them the box and they went.  When I move it, I show them were I move it to.

YAY!

lol it was the same way with our cats too, but when my dad got a cat we had to train him. the treats pretty much worked after about a week.

lmao and about the flushing thing - i can only think of Meet The Parents where the cat uses the toilet and then clogs the septic tank :-P

This is because cats are particuliar about where they will do it.  If allowed to go outside they will naturally pick a sandy spot over other places if available.  So if they know a box is there they will use it.  It might take a little to nudge the natural tendency for kittens, but it usually doesn't take much.
