Right now I don't have it on anything but MiniDV because my

computer is out.  Hopefully I'll have one soon and I'll get it transferred.

That's rock Dustin. I can't wait to relive it all again! lol. It was SO awesome. And it was great meeting you

too!

It was great meeting you too!  You look so much better than your picture in real life.  (Well, now that I think

about it, so do most people... )  Looking back at the tape, I can tell that it was 50 minutes from the time

she left the stage until she started signing autographs.  That's dedication on our part! 8)

Private Radio
« Reply #17 on: March 14, 2005, 08:12:47 am »
I know everyone's wondering how this first successful live performance of "Private Radio" (as deemed by Vanessa herself) went off, so I'm offering this transcript from Thursday night's performance:

(Vanessa finishes "Swindler", on which she flubbed some lyrics, openly announcing it to the audience.)

Vanessa:  "I know I'm not supposed to tell you when I do something wrong, but I feel so close to you and we're in Nashville, so I should always tell you.  But actually, um, I'm gonna play a song tonight that, well, I'm gonna play this next, a song that I just played for the first time live yesterday.  And it was slightly a disaster, but in a humorous way because there's this background vocal, um, that comes in - don't be alarmed, though you're gonna hear two of me when I sing this song, but it's not - I'm not lip synching, this is not an, an Ashlee moment.  I, I, it's all real.  This is all genuine."

(The audience laughs and cheers.)

"So, um, I'm gonna, it's, it's part of the song that goes, 'Ba-da dop, ba-da dop, ba-da da-da da-da, Ba-da dop, ba-da dop, ba-da da-da da-da', and when it, when it, if it comes in at the wrong time, well let's hope it's not gonna come at the wrong time because, uh, Mark's gonna do a great job tonight.  I know he will.  Thank you, Mark.  But, um, which, yeah, he usually does anyway, but we had a little problem.

"So when you hear that, when you hear that part, you feel free to do the 'Ba-dop' thing."

Audience:  "Yeah!"

Vanessa:  "Oh, you're so obedient!  Can I tell you to do other things, too?"

Audience:  "YEAH!!!"

Vanessa:  "Just kidding.  There's children here.  Um, okay, so this song is called 'Private Radio', and, um, it's kind of about the, the, it's about insomnia and all the kind of secretive things that you, you do at night, which, you know... Innocent things, not like making bombs or anything like that, it's like...  I don't know why that came to mind.  Okay here it is:"

(She begins to play the intro to "Private Radio", but stops.)

Vanessa:  Now everyone is gonna be thinking that this song is about making bombs in the middle of the night.  That not what what this song is about.  It's about insomnia."

(Vanessa performs "Private Radio".)

(Listen for these new lyrics:
Keeping secrets at midnight
If there ever was a right time
I'd tell you everything on my mind
I'd tell you everything
)

(The audience starts clapping and cheering constantly.)

Vanessa:  "That was a moment because that's the first time we ever did that successfully and let's have a big round of applause for Mark who made it happen."

(Vanessa claps a few times herself.)

Vanessa:  "Thank you!  You have witnessed this successful 'Private Radio' moment!  I've been avoiding that for like a year.  Thank you."

(Vanessa then performs "Morning Sting".)

Someone posted some video of the Nashville performance on LJ and I was listening to "Private Radio" and all of a sudden I'm like "8O new lyrics!!! 8O" lol.

It sounded good though!  :) Those lyrics over that portion of the song is the hotness.

Thanx!  I'm looking at computers right now, trying to get one like the one I had (for parts interchangibility) for a reasonable price (considering it would now be about a year & ½ old).

Good news!  I have found my computer and I should have it by next Friday! :D   As soon as it arrives, I'm going to drop everything I'm doing and get to work on that video!  I'll make both a Video CD (2.0) and an Audio CD, divided into tracks.  I'm going to put the entire concert on the disk and, depending on space, I will try to include on the Video CD some of the spy video I shot before and after the show.  I may set up a tree system (sort of like what we used for the demo tape) to get the video distributed, or I may handle all distribution myself.  It depends on demand.  I'll only ask for the cost of the disc, envelope, and postage.  My time and use of my resources are free.  I'll announce the "release" in a separate thread when I have it ready.  Everyone who has never seen Vanessa live is about to find out what they've been missing out on and why they should try to go see her as soon as possible! :D

I have pictures from the concert!  All of the pictures of Vanessa are actually stills from the video I'm going to put together.

Here are a few of my favorites:

The signboard in front of the building, "on a cloudy day"

Vanessa during soundcheck at 5:30 p.m.
(The reflection is her bus, parked in front of the building.)

Water break

C'est La Vie on the Rhodes Piano

The audience takes the line, "And I miss you".

Vanessa handing me back my 'Be not Nobody' cassette, having just signed it.

The entire album can be seen here:

Send me the photos. I get mine back on Sunday.

Ahh! I can't believe she came out after I left. I'm so bummed out, but it's okay. At least I got to see her. I was right by the stage. It was such a great performance. I would really like a copy of that tape.

Thanks for sharing the pictures!

I am somewhat amused though, as it seems that the person just to your right (or maybe a couple people to your right) was taping with a camera or something too, because they posted a bunch of videos on LJ that were just to the right a bit in vantagepoint. Was security that lax about cameras and whatnot?

Could you perhaps post a link to these videos? :)
