Cincinnati Enquirer Review

Singer-piano player Vanessa Carlton, a 24-year-old who sings as pretty as she plays, did a 30-minute solo opening set that included familiar songs like “A Thousand Miles” and “Ordinary Day” plus a few new and unreleased tunes.

Cincinnati Post Review

Vanessa Carlton opened the evening with her too squeaky voice and gushing perhaps too much at how cool it was that Stevie Nicks chose her as an opener for this leg of the tour (Unfortunately, Cincinnati just missed the 10 dates that Don Henley was Nicks' opener).

Carlton is a solid songwriter and performer giving moving versions of her hit "A Thousand Miles" and the more intricate "White Houses." But her piano playing was better than her singing and she ought to really thank Nicks for letting her bring a luscious grand piano on stage as an opening act.

The whole concept of a review has always (and will always) piss me off.  Everyone has different taste in music.  Some people are more obviously talented than others, but freakin' come ON!  It's one person's opinion...why the hell does it matter?  Why do they get paid for it??????

Yeah, I saw a bunch of reviews on the nicksfix site, and most of their fans had good things to say about VC.

I wish I got paid to voice my opinion, I do it for free on AlbumBuzz   LOL. I think the problem is a lot of people who are reviewers aren't as objective as you need to be in order to BE a reviewer, thus they slight all kinds of music they don't like.

This really isn't that bad a review.  WH is referred to as "more intricate", which I think is a compliment.  "Solid songwriter and performer"? Check.
And I like that VC gushes over someone like Stevie.  IT'S JUST LIKE WHEN WE NESSA FANS GET ALL FLUSTERED AND CRAZY OVER HER!   The last sentence of the review is kind of ignorant.  Stevie is probably thankful that the stage changeover is shorter than taking a full band's crap off the stage.  It's customary to thank the headliner if you are an opening act.  This person needs to look in the file under "clue", but this is not a full-on trashing.

It was the squeaky voice thing that I think made most people go  :x.

Agreed.  That was a cheap shot.  Squeaky voice?  How would they describe Mariah Carey?  Tweety Bird on helium?

I think the Post is just mad that they're the # 2 newspaper in Cincy...
Good for the Enquirer! That's why my family uses them.

I am still pissed I didn't get to go.
