I apologize if there's already a thread, but oh my gosh she's amazing. Meet Me By the Water, Under My Skin, 1963, Reason Why, Be Be Your Love, Elephants, Sunday Afternoon, Duet (Ft. Ray LaMontagne), and more. She plays piano, if anyone's interested

It is one trimester. It used to be two last year and that is why I had to drop band. I wanted to take band, german, and piano but they all didn't fit in my schedule... So I choose to drop band AND THEN I DIDN'T EVEN GET THE CLASS! I it was one trimester before then it would have all fit, but nooooo.

lol, sorry, I'm kinda p-oed at my school. They have strict rules about changing your schedule.

I hear you. In my freshman year, I was looking so forward to taking French and whatnot. However, it was a decision between French or band. I took band mainly because it substituted PE, and I despise PE haha

My mom tried to talk me out of buying one. But an hour after I decided to order it, they were all gone (I ordered it before she put the message up saying there were 11 left)

I love the lyrics! Love them. I would like to hear the music.

Thank you! That means a lot. Everyone's their own worst critic, so good feedback helps reinforce myself :)

It's not about crimson birds
Or taxi cabs in New York or guitar tabs
Just my footsteps on replay <---- Gotta be my favorite lines(:

I love the lyrics to song particularly because almost every one applies to something that happened on my trip recently, or applying to idea itself.
For examples, crimson birds refers to St. Louis cardinals (where I live, implying that its not what I want anymore), taxi cabs in New York (referring to my brother's personal opinion that New York is better than Chicago. I feel like New York is too much, and Chicago is comfortably sized), guitar tabs refers to college, not wanting a music major anymore, and "Just my footsteps on replay" refers to visiting some of the same places as previous times.

The chords for the chorus.

Dm - Am - C - G

Actually, that's pretty much the whole thing.

In the chorus, I hear:
Dm - F - Am - G

I could be wrong though :P

As previously mentioned, I love this song. But something really bothers me about the studio version. In the first verse, it just feels unnatural to have the guitar strums lead into the short piano bridge. Also, I feel like the chords don't match up evenly; the guitar seems to come in a fraction late after the piano chords kick in. Being both a guitarist and pianist, I feel like the first verse could have been arranged more artistically. From second verse on, however, flawless. :)

Sadly, my band hasn't really done anything (you'd think with two people, it would be easy to get things). Actually, it's really sad because we've been 'together' since December last year, and the most we've done is share the lyrics to 3 songs. We have worked on covers, though (Defying Gravity from Wicked, Never Say Never by The Fray, etc etc etc). Once we do have a recording of this song, which will most likely be our first single, I'll be sure to upload it on this thread.

PS- if you are curious about the song, it is similar to  "You Are My Home" by The Hush Sound. Female vocals, swinging waltz, shuffling drumbeat, and very piano driven.

I'm the lyricist of my duo/band/whatever you call it, and this might be my best work. It's a love song for the city of Chicago (I'm so sick of the suburbs).

I took of bus up north
Didn't know any more
Than what I was to expect

I walked my full mile
Didn't even mind the rain
Just wanted some way to reflect

It's not about crimson birds
Or taxi cabs in New York or guitar tabs
Just my footsteps on replay
Eleven out of one to ten
Photography and mannequins
Ready for what may

Wake up from the buildings by the lake
Captured only half of what I wanted to take
Better than the concrete tried to say
Restart counting all the days when the city lights the way

Out for tea on Ohio
Forever the tiles
I didn't mean to rush you

But time is money
When the cost is too high
Empty hands are worse that this few

It's not history, modern nature
Previews before the movie feature
Just my footsteps on replay
Fear of heights on Ferris wheels
Listen closely and you'll hear the bells
Ready for what may

Wake up from the buildings by the lake
Captured only half of what I wanted to take
Better than the concrete tried to say
Restart counting all the days when the city lights the way

It's not about crimson birds
Or taxi cabs in New York or guitar tabs
Just my footsteps on replay
Eleven out of one to ten
Photography and mannequins
Ready for what may

It's not history, modern nature
Previews before the movie feature
Just my footsteps on replay
Fear of heights on Ferris wheels
Listen closely and you'll hear the bells
Ready for what may

Wake up from the buildings by the lake
Captured only half of what I wanted to take
Better than the concrete tried to say
Restart counting all the days when the city lights the way

Thoughts, anyone?

Is anyone else a fan? They're from the movie "Once", which everyone almost always recognizes "Falling Slowly" from it. Their music is beautiful. My favorites are "Sleeping", "This Low", "When Your Mind's Made Up", "Alone Apart", and "The Rain".

I've heard "Ordinary Day" at 54th Street Bar & Grill and "A Thousand Miles" at my brothers volleyball game- the team was warming up to it and i couldn't help but crack up :P

I'm 17 years old and I have struggled with mental illness ever since I was 13. I was hospitalized for anorexia when I was 15, and I've been struggling with self harm issues ever since.
I really do believe that everyone has something they're dealing with, but no one ever wants to talk about it. Basically everyone I know has some connection to some form of mental illness, but I think that society really has a problem with it.
In general, what's the opinion on self harm, anyway? I do it as a way to cope with frustration, anger, sadness... and I've always been afraid to tell my parents and doctor about it, thinking they'll overreact and think I'm trying to kill myself. But that's not the case... It's just what I do to deal with things. I know it's not the healthiest way and I'm trying to get over it. But do you ever wonder about people? Like if they have inexplicable cuts/burns? I just assume everyone thinks like me... instantly suspicious, but only because it's what I always experience.

I'm sure you're right about everyone having some sort of issues.  However, cutting is not healthy, even though you don't plan to kill yourself.  I hope that you can get some help, even if it's not from your parents.  Maybe try to find someone you trust to tell and help you.  Someone who won't judge and just support you.  Maybe find a center of some sort that is in your area, or some sort of annoymous group of sorts.  Please get help! We need all the nessaholics we can get. hehe :)

i just want to point out:
someone from my area just commited suicide from depression and bullying and if people don't approach their problems in a correct way then it can all turn out for the worse. but it's always easier said than done :( RIP Barbara. please hope the best for her family and friends.

shinesobright, even though i do not know, i will pray for you and send the best wishes. just remember that you are loved

Just wondering what types of art people around here like. Personally I love abstract art, since art, in my opinion, should be free of material things. By that I mean I am not a fan of impressionism. It just doesn't click for me. Although, I do love abstract impressionism, along with cubism, neoplasticism, and lyrical abstraction.
