The good thing is, we'll probably have an album before summer. The bad thing is, with 37 minutes, we've know we've already heard half the album: Fair-Weather Friends, London, I Don't Want To Be A Bride, Carousel, Tall Tales For Spring. If each of these songs is 3:30 (which is the average length for a song), then multiplication indicates we've heard 16:50 of the 37 minutes, which is not quite half. (But, I'm also assuming at least two of the five tracks I listed are more than the standard 3:30. Perhaps one is shorter. This is just an estimate.)

But anyway, I'm excited to hear "Fair-Weather Friends" in its studio form. I hope she doesn't change it too much, or add too much to it, like Adele did with "Someone Like You."

Totally agree, thats the beauty of Vanessa, live versions are so different to her produced version, so still think it will be like hearing a completely new album.

Having said that with the album being 37 mins, that probably means we might not see many instrumental outros like you have on songs like Home.

It's okay for me, though we've pretty much heard half of the record. But I really believe that the studio version will be a very different experience to the live ones, so I'm still looking forward to all of these songs.

oh how the days creep up on you
but the goodness is something you don't have to chase

I'm not sure if Vanessa has a definite plan to actually promote this album. She's at a point where she's more into creating an album for the art, and not for the sake of making tons of money and skyrocketing to fame.

It's moreso up to us as her fanbase to help promote/create buzz about her new album before it comes out.

That's what I like the most about her :)

I agree. It's a very rare thing for artists nowadays.

I hear you all, but it's frustrating as a fan to have her on the fringe like this.  She also is not like some other artists that happily play very intimate clubs or even at people's homes(yes, there is such a thing).  I understand that she enjoys maintaining a distance, but I'm sure everyone is aware that you can't just drop an album and expect it to sell.  There aren't enough of us to make more of an impact than a really good label or management company doing promotion could.  Every album of hers has sold less and less, and it seems like she plays live less and less.  That is a damn shame.

:) I don't mind shorter songs... honestly I prefer them if they have really good lyrics and music. Vignettes of emotion and mood... that's what I hope for. I do wish it was longer though... but I'm sure it will be a lovely experience :3 can't wait to pop the album in for the first time and feel the journey

Totally agree with those parts. I still love V as much as I ever did but the lack of live shows is slowly but surely driving me crazy! Because that's what I like about her mostly, her live shows mesmerize me and I'm always eager to see her perform.

She (or whoever is marketing ROTR) needs to promote it big time and I mean, promote the hell out of it! Her name needs to be out there again, at least for her to keep making music. Because I don't know about all of you guys but I don't see myself living in a world where Vanessa Carlton has stopped making music. I already miss her like crazy so yeah, you get my point...

You make some very good points.  It is frustrating.  I would love for her to at least tour more,  intimate clubs would be the best because I think it's more her style and her style of music also fits the small club scene better than big arenas.  Or college tours like the one in Feb.  It does seem like she has been on a steady decline of live performance and to quote you, it IS a damn shame.  For some reason though, I think this will be a "come back" record of sorts.  Of the five songs we've heard, I think at least 2 could become radio hits (Carousel and Bride).  I feel like consumers are wanting more from their musicians these days and she certainly fits the bill.  While there is still a lot of commercialism, there are more people open to depth.  The timing of other albums may have been off and coincided with a lot of pop domination. I think Glee should cover one of her songs, that would put her in the spot light for sure!

Ive found that shorter records are the most addicting and the ones you want to listen to a million times over, at least thats how It is with me. None of her albums are an hour, and I can listen to them over and over again and not get tired of it. Of course its good music, but some good albums can be a bit lengthy and therefore, you wont sit there and listen to the whole thing right away. I don't know, just a small thought. (Thriller was only 9 songs long)
