Brooke Fraser

 The debut album from 20 y-o Brooke Fraser What To Do With Daylight

Quote
Brooke wrote all 11 tracks on the album and played instruments on each song.

The album's contrast of haunting, soul-searching confessions and lighthearted, joyful tunes reflects the different sides of Brooke's personality - the young woman who has been involved with World Vision for two years, and is travelling to Cambodia with the charity group; and the teenager who spends hours hanging out with friends and forming her next plan of attack against zits.

Talented guest musicians who performed on Brooke's album include infamous New Zealand muso Godfrey de Grut, Spearhead bassist Carl Young and producer / drummer Brady Blade.

Brooke's first single Better exploded onto the music charts, peaking at #3 with her second single "Lifeline" looking likely to do the same.

Her musical influences range from soulful crooners Marvin Gaye and James Taylor to new millenium artists including John Mayer and India Arie. She also plays a variety of musical instruments, including the piano, which she began studying at seven, and the guitar, which she taught herself at 16.

Brooke Fraser is an incredible talent who writes beyond her years and will surely have a long and stellar career.

Melissa Tallon

Released in Australia 08/09 8)

Quote
“I am passionate about originality. I’m drawn to it.” Melissa Tallon creates the kind of music that is timeless. It is the combination of her intoxicating voice, mysterious beauty and compositions that mine the rich vein of life experience. “Songs to me are just everything – that’s where it all starts”, says the Brisbane based artist.
Tallon’s album is full of faith. It’s raw, honest and brimming with strong melodies. Its delicacy is complimented by the intrinsic and fresh production. “21” is the first single from Tallon’s canny debut album and it’ll entwine itself around your psyche. Melissa reflects that “21” is about grief and sudden change. You know, when you wake up one morning and everything is suddenly different ...” “Dreaming” is layered with elegant textures and chart-friendly pop sense. “Open My Eyes” has that same sure-hit feel and “If I Had” touches a raw sensual nerve. On this track, Melissa’s playing is dirtied up with a sexy groove, “ ‘If I Had’ is all about just taking a chance, forgetting your inhibitions and seizing the moment.” And if ever you needed a reason to get out of the house “Sunday” is a song that dreams up a heaven of blue skies, full sails and jazzy grooves.

Born in Brisbane, Australia, Melissa spent her childhood in Papua New Guinea before moving back to Queensland. Playing keyboards at 7, she wrote her first song at 10, “Music has always moved me even when I was a little girl. I used to find that the most interesting tunes would move me to tears.”

At 17, Melissa was accepted into the Queensland Conservatorium of Music but a family financial crisis forced the sale of her childhood piano. “When I didn’t have it, I used to go into music stores and play for hours. I thought, wow, I have all this music to write – just give me a piano and I’ll do it.”

The new millennium heralded a bright beginning for Melissa when EMI Music Publishing’s John Anderson signed her to a worldwide deal as a singer/songwriter. “There’s a great depth and sense of life experience to Melissa’s music. Those aspects of her lyrics and songs are very appealing and have attracted the attention of true believers like Doug James who heads our US Film and Soundtrack division” he beams.

“If He’s The One”, a piano and strings ballad, has since featured in an episode of NBC network’s popular romantic comedy series, “Miss Match” [starring Alicia Silverstone].

All 14 songs were recorded at Studios 301 Sydney and Byron Bay where Melissa worked closely with producer David Nicholas (Sting, Elton John & George). “I just know how it all sounds. When I write the music I can hear where it should be…”

It’s an elaborate debut that features arranger Daniel Denholm (Silverchair, Alex Lloyd, Paul Mac) working with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Outside the studio confines Melissa is empowered by playing live. “It gives you a sense of confidence about what you’re doing and what connects with people”.

Tallon has now been approached by Disney to write a song for the movie “Ice Princess”. “I’m very excited about that, it’s an absolute privilege.” Her musical mentors span a wide spectrum from Beethoven, Mozart and Bach through to Bacharach, Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones. Melissa loves melody. Her music is addictive and one listen to this album is not enough.

In the spirit of the Olympics I have to say  :drunk: COSSIE COSSIE COSSIE OY OY OY  :blob:
1 WHEN THE WAR IS OVER Cosima
2 ANGEL EYES Paulini
3 SCAR (EP) Missy Higgins
4 BROKEN Seether Feat. Amy Lee
5 SUMMER RAIN Slinkee Minx

Woo Cosima is number 1, last week my other favorite was number 1 (Missy) and now Cos is <3
Good on her, you dont have to have a huge record deal to get a number one single.
There are 4 out of 5 Aussies in the top 5 which is great to see: Cosima, Paulini, Missy and Slinkee Minx.
Congratulations Cosima and Missy  8)

Here is my new wallpaper, it has Missy Higgins and the Scar lyrics on it.

Cosima is number one again this week with When the war is over while Scar by Missy creaps into second on the ARIA charts.

The Missy Higgins website has been updated to celebrate the release of The Sound of White and its really quite cool.
Now you can watch the Scar video, download new Missy wallpaper and AIM icons and also pre order her CD which comes with an extra live CD.
I might order it from the site bc its $29.99 from HMV and with the postage and handling from the the site it is less than at HMV so ill order it tomorrow and send off my money order.
I also got my The Missy Higgins EP in the mail today and I love it so much.
