found this :"The new MTV show "Duets" will give fans the chance to perform their favorite song with their favorite MTV artist. For an episode featuring Vanessa Carlton, audio engineer Ian Charbonneau used two of the artist's favored Sennheiser Evolution Series e 845 wired vocal microphones to capture her duet.

He recalled that Carlton had brought her own Sennheiser e 845 to the NAMM show’s Elton John tribute earlier this year and wanted to duplicate that recording."

also she did an ad for baldwin pianos - anyone else have any other info?

Well it's not strictly Vanessa's equipment, but for the UK tour Jesse used an Orange Head & Amp (ala Black Sabbath) and a gibson looking guitar. Maybe somebody who actually knows stuff about guitars can give more detail from that blurred pic :)

I cannot imagine anyone favoring a Yamaha grand when given the choice of something else. But, they are really common. Their uprights have great bass for uprights... but their grands suck, IMNSHO. Maybe I have just had bad luck with them, but I have never found a Yamaha grand I really like. We have one at my church that I play occasionally. Action just feels wrong. I have no way to really describe it. Also, that thing can't keep in tune for very long. I have encountered similar problems with other Yamahas as well. (I play piano in jazz band. Lots of festivals have Yamahas.)

I think she probably plays Yamahas in concert because lugging around a grand from town to town is difficult. And Yamahas are everywhere.

Elton John may prefer his Yamaha CFIIS to anything else, but I still think he's crazy.

I do know that Vanessa really dug the pianos in Duets. Looked like Model D's or B's (C doesn't come in Walnut, if I remember correctly). Baldwin also makes some great pianos. As posted above, she has a Mason & Hamlin at her home.

She has a Roland XV-88 Keyboard around with here almost everywhere as well.  I think it might be hers because it was backstage during the interview, and i've seen it on a few live performances (tv) when she played keyboard instead of piano.

Based on her comments when finally getting to play a real piano after having to use a syntesizer for a while, I would have to say most definitely that she prefers a real piano, but sometimes space and transport are restricting.  If I'm going to play a keyboard, I'd at least like to have one with good simulated action, touch response, realistic sound, and PEDALS!!!
