Well Kev's not doing it. So I will :-P

Evanescence are essentially a rock band with female vocals. 'So what?' I hear you cry. 'There are a million of those bands'. Well that's true, but not like this one there isn't. I'm not telling lies, they are the best band I've heard in a long, long time. You'd be a fool not check them out.

Their first on-label album (entitled Fallen) will be released on March 4th (2 days). They have a ton of material recorded before that, which can be found all over KaZaA and the yahoo groups. Their range is spectacular: from moving piano ballads to hard rock stuff and a bunch of things in between. Download some of their stuff (it's not available to buy) and check it out.

All the info you'll need about the band can be found here [exodus]Evanescence, this is an un-official site, but it's been around a lot longer than the official one and it's a lot better. Links to the official stuff, yahoo groups, livejournal community, etc. can all be found in the links section.

-Kev

P.S. An interview and small acoustic set is available here.

well, i was wondering how long before someone would post about Evanescence!  I had noticed the lack of them on the list the other day.  I really like the song Even in Death and i dig the fact that they performed it on dc101, even with all their newer material they could have tried to promote!  I, as well, highly recommend you check out this group.  They're very talented and enjoyable to listen to.  I like how even the live rip from Kev shows how amazingly talented their lead singer (Amy Lee) is.  Her voice is beautiful.

ack! you beat me to it!

Yes everyone needs to check this band out! They WILL hook you! From the first time I heard "Bring Me To Life" I was sold! Yet that was only the tip of the iceburg. Like Kev said, their music spans many genres from hard rock, numetal, to Vanessa-type piano ballads, so there is something for everyone to lach onto!
Every Vanessa fan should download "My Immortal"! Its a beautiful piano ballad I think everyone would love!

Man, I waited for at least 3 weeks. I couldn't resist any longer. The world needs to know!

Arrgh the evil N word :-/ Kev is totally right of course, but lovers of the guitar lead need not be put off. While numetal has sealed it's fate as a passing fad by abondoning all difficult guitar parts and leads, Ben can actually play. Also, they're not overdone, but there are even a few glorious solos to tingle the spine. And that's saying nothing of the vast gulf in quality between your average numetal band's writing and vocals and Ev's (none of this angry shouty screamy crap). Evanescence is NOT a numetal band!

Sorry, numetal is just a personal prejudice of mine >:-) Carry on.

mix tape? anyone?
« Reply #5 on: March 07, 2003, 07:15:27 pm »
ok... so this is kinda a difficult question as there is a lot of Ev material out there...

If you had to make an Evanescence mix tape, what songs/what versions of what songs, would you include on your tape???

I can't decide.. i was thinking about this the other night.  there is no easy solution.

I actually made one yesterday, it was a mix CD so I was dealing with 76 mins instead of a tape's 90 (90 would have been easy!). It was rushed, but here's what I ended up with. Not in this order.

Understanding - Ev EP
My Immortal (piano-vocal) - Unreleased
My Immortal (unreleased) - Mystery EP
Anywhere - Origin
Haunted - Fallen
Everybody's Fool - Fallen
Imaginary 2.0 - Demo Takes
Hello - Fallen
Going Under - Fallen
Breathe No More - DemoCD
Even In Death - DemoCD
So Close - Ev EP
Taking Over Me - Fallen
My Last Breath - Demo Takes
Before The Dawn - unreleased
Whisper2002 - Demo CD
Away From Me - Origin
Bring Me To Life - Demo CD (Without McCoy!)

Haha, I knew that someone was going to beat you to it if you didn't do it. That is why I nudged you, lol. Anyway, Evanescence is a great band, if you're willing to give them a chance. Some people are just too close-minded at times to do so. But hey, that is them. I love their music, and their new CD, Fallen, is fantastic. :)

Oops sorry Kev. I guess I really should have asked before stealing your band.

I happen to have this one online temporarily for somebody, I'll leave it up for anybody who wants to hear it. Thanks to blackvulture for the song.

Yeah... My friend was finally "won over" by them via the Leno performance. Not enough to buy the CD (yet), but she thinks they are good.

Yes! Finally the Ev thread has more responses than the Las Ketchup thread. I was starting to fear that it wouldn't ever happen :-/

I was always on about them to a friend of mine at uni and she downloaded the stuff from mp3.com and listened to the clips from the album. She wants to buy it, but the lightweight won't pay for the import, pfft.
