now, my highest bid was $_ ...i had a hard enough time convincing my mom to even register to ebay (she worrys a lot) it was hard for me to convince her how important this was to me, so eventually we settled on no more than $_

Why did you bid so early?

Now people will be definitely outbidding you. That will for sure drive the price high. If you would have waited until the auction had almost ended, a lower amount probably would have gotten you the win.
