Sounds pretty cool .. it's nice when there's a united effort.
Just like they did for Tsunami which albeit was a more urgent reason ...
Some good bands ... Mariah Carey meets Madonna meets U2 meets coldplay annie lennox greenday ... a bunch of recent and older acts ...

U2 in London is singing Beautiful Day they changed the worlds to see the orld to include all the venues of the Live 8 and their mission for Africa .. nice ..

You sense that each act feels like they're playing for a greater cause not just to promote their music or to entertain or sthg ... it's nice ...

Of course Australia isn't making too much noise about it becuase we're so far removed from everything and everyone else in the world ... it's not on free to air TV but it's on cable .. and it's good to see the rest of the world making noise!! :-)

Its on ch 9 tonight at 8:30pm, so its abit late but meh atleast we get to see it (for those non Foxtel people).
Australia doesnt suck!!!
We have Jet, Tina Arena and Keith Urban in the concert so we have contributed in some aspect.
I think we arnt having anything here because no one knows any of our singers and there arnt any international people over here at the moment to make a concert that the rest of the world would want to watch.

hahaha fair enough :-)
yeah it's on TV now right? I can hear REM.
YEah we're contributing ... but don't you think it would have been nice for a "mini" concert to have been organised here too?
In our own hyde park or sthg?
No one knows of our Delta or our Missy Higgins or our other awesome bands? Kylie even?
I mean I know there's been other aussie bands that have made it big, but I can't think of any right now ..
Maybe the rest of the world wouldn't want to watch, but it would be another country showing it's voice ... but if we don't have a leader in the G8 summit, doesn't mean we can't be heard ... maybe it would dilute the focus though .. maybe not .. but yeah ..

The highlights as b/cast on Cannel 9 were certainly entertaining 8) Great to see
the mastermind of the concept also performing I Don't Like Mondays  :D  Sir Paul's
trio to finish the HP gig rocked, especially Hey Jude with vocal help from 2 Divas!

I was there in London!! It was the most amazing, life-changing experience, but also quite hard hitting. The Who and Pink Floyd were just amazingas were thr other 22 bands (maybe with the exception of Snoop Dogg and Ms Dynamite  )

All the artists were amazing! U2 released a load of doves during Beautiful Day! Keane were so great to sing along to, as was Robbie Williams and, well, many others! The atmosphere was so overwhelming. My mates and I were about a third of the way back in the crowd of 200,000 (not as much as Philly) and if you turned around there were people as far as the eye could see! When the girl who had survived the famine came on with Madonna it brought tears to my eyes, i was just so moving. i don't think many people my age can say they have seen The Who and Pink Floyd live in their life time! You can watch the whole thing (it's in a continuous loop) on http://www.aol.com in Paris, Berlin, Philadelphia London and the Global Feed. Go check it out! Also, make sure you add your name to the petition at http://www.live8live.com.

Oooh it was SO good to finally see footage of Dave Matthews Band live! I had been hoping to see it for such a long time! Madonna cannot sing for toffee. I hope this actually changes things though and makes Bush see he shouldn't just do 'what is right for america' (as he said on his ITN interview tonight).

When I went to the VC/Nicks show on Monday Stevie Nicks talked about Live 8 and was pimping the whole www.one.org thing.

*insert eye roll here*  Geldoff and Live8 took enough flack from non-US sources to even remotely attach some GWBush argument to it.

But, as an FYI.... the UK is 4th on the list of foreign aid givers.  The US is #1 with the next closest country, Japan, giving less than 1/2 of the US's total amount of foreign aid.  Sure it may not compare to the overall GDP of the US, but quite frankly, a US dollar that is part of .16% GDP buys the same amount as a dollar that is part of .85%  The whole debate is what people outside the US think the US SHOULD be giving.  Those people should now be fine equine dentists with as much as they are looking at that gift horse's mouth.  None of this takes into account the private donations to charities and religious organizations, where again, the US is at the top of the list.

Quote from: "Dr. Carol Adelman, Aid and Comfort, Tech Central Station, 21 August 2002"
...Even though the charts above do show US aid to be poor (in percentage terms) compared to the rest, the generosity of the American people is far more impressive than their government.

International giving by US foundations: $1.5 billion per year
Charitable giving by US businesses: $2.8 billion annually
American NGOs: $6.6 billion in grants, goods and volunteers.
Religious overseas ministries: $3.4 billion, including health care, literacy training, relief and development.
US colleges scholarships to foreign students: $1.3 billion
Personal remittances from the US to developing countries: $18 billion in 2000

While Adelman admits that “there are no complete figures for international private giving” she still says that Americans are “clearly the most generous on earth in public — but especially in private — giving”.

And frankly, aid should not be a government thing...  at least not for non socialist/communist countries.

Feel free to read up on the US foreign aid... I don't think handing out $18 Billion is anything to be ashamed of at all:
