And me listen. hmmmm
« Reply #75 on: March 06, 2006, 03:45:01 pm »
Before, some people were saying that "and me listen" makes NO sense and I totally agree, which is why I decided in my brain that it is in fact HELP me listen. Don't attack me if you disagree, it just helps me deal with the weirdness of the word me in that sentence. =] Anyone with me?

To me, it makes perfect sense
If only you could tell me it’s okay and me listen cos it already is
If only someone could tell her it's okay, and have her listen.
That's why I argue that it makes sense.

I think what she means is like, "you can tell me it's okay, but like I'll actually listen.."

And all the constellations, shine down on you and me...

it's amazing. i wish it said 'I listen' though, that would mean the same thing but sound less....weird..but dont get me wrong, it's amazing and i <3 her.

EDIT: Maybe it's 'have me listen'? that would make sense also...*listens*

That recording makes my speakers mad, I can't really tell anything she sings, but you are having some debate over her grammar. I'm an English major and I'll tell you, most people don't mind grammar errors in songs.

If only you could tell me it’s okay and me listen cos it already is
^^ that does make sense if you think of it like.......

"If only you could tell me it's ok, and have me listen, cause it already is".

Whatever, we all know what she means.

Thank you Jessica; I wasn't able to record anything in Brisbane  Australians
are far less likely to pick on the grammar of V with the exception of this piece;

At number 31 Vanessa Carlton has paid a heavy price for the injudicious use of a double negative in her album title. Australians are nothing if not pedantic on the matter of grammatical correctness and are notoriously short on patience when it comes to titles this stupid.

Oh, that's ridiculous!!

The title is genius.  I've always thought so.

Suck on my left buttock, please.  It's not a double negative in the usual sense.  It is a case of elimination.  I know we've been over this here before, but apparently that reviewer hasn't heard of such.
