It would be interesting to see which accent people in general (esp. those from other countries) feel is the "American" accent, lol.

Hmmm, to me, the most neutral "American" accent is the one from NYC. My neighbor's from there and she once told me her accent is "standard".
I agree with her. Not that I don't like other American accents but I think the NYC accent, if I could call it that, is the easiest to understand for foreign people in general.

Wouldn't the English accent be the correct accent?

Wasn't there a REAAAALLY long thread discussing this a while back?
There is a correct pronunciation, check the dictionary. And the Midwest/Ohio area is a generally correct accent, minus a few words (Washington is sometimes pronounced "Warshington", uggh).

Yeah, I hate that too. I don't have an accent (at least I don't think so). My idea of the American Accent isn't NYC, but Florida. I haven't met a person from Florida who has any sort of accent.
Why don't you come on over? Stop making a fool out of me.

Many people in the Keys claim to have a "Conch accent".

and wouldn't British not be an accent, because they invented the language? so wouldn't however they speak it be the standard way and everyone else who speaks it differently have an accent?

i don't understand how any one can like the American accent? it sounds so cheap and boring..

You forgot Australian in your poll.
And mine is American, especially the North-East one.

I so would have voted for Australian. I love their accents.

Have you heard a real Australian? The accents portrayed in some films are so cringe-inducing.   Ugh.

I thought this would be a poll of ENGLISH accents, not accents of just a few English-speaking countries. I would've voted Liverpudlian.  :)

They really are, lol.

And yes, I've heard a real Australian. I have a couple friends from there I talk to from time to time  :D.

Well, if you're living in LA you'll have to get used to it :D. I'm assuming (probably incorrectly) that you lived in a different country before.

I like the NY accent, but there are other American accents that I hate (like the valley girl accent), so I voted for the British accent.  They have the perfect accent for telling a joke; especially witty stuff and non-sequitors. 8)
