I saw them last night...it was the best night of my life! I went to the Cornell University show, with Matt Nathanson opening. I'd never heard Matt's music before, but he's really really good and very funny. Think John Mayer and Howie Day.

Anyway, I got there around 5:30 and there was already a pretty long line (doors didn't open until 7). I saw some people i know from school in the front, and they were kind enough to let us cut with them :-P As soon as they let people in I booked it to the front and got a pretty good spot in front of the speakers on the right side. I had a clear shot of Stephan, and when he would come over to our side I was about 5 feet away from him!

He was so charismatic and funny on stage - the faces he made for Narcolepsy were priceless :-P They played a mixture of old and new songs. Summertown was one of them, and he also played one that he dedicated to his "friend Gwen" because he wrote a song about his sister - obviously Vanessa. It was a really good song from what i could understand, but i could really pick up what he was saying except for the chorus which went something like "let the water hold you under" or pull you under or take you under or something under :-P.

For their encore they played Motorcycle Driveby, God Of Wine, Slow Motion, and another one but i can't remember what it was. During Semi Charmed Kind of Life there were mad crowd surfers. I almost got kicked in the face by one, but thankfully my roomate caught his foot in time.

the new guitarist Tony is AMAZING. The crowd absolutely loved him. he took a pretty big solo during one of the songs, and at the end of the show came out and shook everyones hands.

so that's basically it. Stephan said that they're making a new cd, but he's been procrastinating on it.

so anyways, even though i did not get to meet Stephan (which i didn't expect to, but hey, a girl can dream :-P) I can now die happy. it really was the best concert i've ever been to!

I'm so happy for you that you got to go to Cornell!!! I went to AC (09/29) and Seton Hall (09/30). They played so fucking amazingly... Everything sounds so GREAT and the new songs blew me away. Even more than they did in May. I'm so psyched for this album. SO psyched.
If you want to download boots they're at forums.3eb.co.uk.

umm the only new one that isn't bootlegged (that i know of) so far is the one he said he wrote about Vanessa. The music for that song was much much louder than the vocals, so i couldn't really understand what Stephan was singing, just that little part of the chorus.

i'd have to read the lyrics to decide the level of romanticism. the title alone would suggest not, but water can be suggestive of fertility and mystery...and following the trend in Stephan's lyrics, he probably means something deep like that, you know?

all i know is that for the whole show in the back of my mind i was thinking how cool it would be if vanessa like, popped out from back stage and did a song with him :-P hahaha one can dream
