god, i'm in love with this song.  it's been said, but yeah, i totally see the "afterglow" comparison.  it feels like one of those introspective, long-walk-home-alone kind of monologues.
and though i've given him his empire....
.......he delivers me my fear

it actually reminds me of "The One" in terms of the piano part. so beautiful. favorite vc song ever
let's just pray that the studio version doesn't ruin it (as someone said earlier)

EDIT:
does anyone else think that this is vanessa's best song of all time? her songwriting has just reached this wonderful peak; the lyrics and melody and piano part all fit so nicely together and reminds me of paul mccartney or elton john in some way.

I agree that the lyrics is somehow like to Afterglow and I also agree that the playing style is somehow like The One. But I think this song has identity of its own, pensive and thoughtful. I like how V manages to put her reflections into a song in a poetic manner, yet the message is pretty clear, depending to the listeners.

Floating on the sea, stars are watching me. Currents take me out, what will be will be.

Alternative lyrics from Nashville Pride Festival performance.

I waste away the days
Waiting on a new age
But time betrays me
And I get older one more year

Walk London's windy streets
Go anywhere but home
'Cause I'm looking for the secrets
That only cobble stones hold
Only the cobble stones know

And I've never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
They never come

Got a knife-throwing kind of love
But your silence cuts the deepest
And I know I've made a mess of things
And I'm sorry for all that
Wish we could get the time back

'Cause I've never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come
Wait for it
Wait for it

Now I'm staring at the sun
As if there's a riddle I'm not in on

But the wolves howl to the Moon
And she never answers back
No, she never answers back

But after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never -- never been so sure
That after all these years, all that I've learned
Is that heavenly creatures never come, oh

I waste the days away
Waiting on a new age

Same here, though I also like the 'the Earth will turn when we're gone; SO we pray the Heavens would wait on us' lyrics.

I know, that's the part I liked. At least she left in the lyrics about the wolves howling to the moon, though. Those are my fave.

According to her Wikipedia "She also announced that the song "London" would be the first single in her upcoming record". Is that true ?

I like the other line "earth will turn when we're gone" better, also.
