i think it's beautiful, but i'm not sure if i'm feeling the analogue, live-recording sound... and i think it may have been a poor choice for the first single. i've always preferred Bride.  still a great song. love the claps and the piano of course

This exactly. Analogue shouldn't be used if it hampers audio quality. And she's always had great audio quality. I know she was going for a more indie approach, but I personally think Heroes and Thieves had a nicer sound. xD;

That being said, Carousel is a fantastic song. I just wish it was recorded a bit better. The children's claps sound tinny. D:

The video that was on Vevo of the song just streaming said that the album would be availible on iTunes May 31st...does that mean to pre-order on May 31st or to buy the whole album?  And then the physical release will be June 21st? 

That would be pretty smart marketing to release the album digitally on the 31st and then the physical copy on June 21st because that would drive hardcore fans to purchase the album twice..both in a digital and physical copy...which I don't mind doing these days because typically CD's are less then 8 bucks the first week of release...especially indie releases.

i can think of some reasons
1) they finally realized how easy it is to steal music from youtube
2) replace the video with just a picture for the actual music video.
3) the song is already on Vanessacarlton.com through soundcloud, perhaps they think doing it this way is better than youtube...or that it should be the only way.

yes, but I think they think that by having only on soundcloud (private upload) through vanessacarlton.com (because you need the specific URL to find the song on soundcloud)
and by having people "share" the song before they can listen or whatever, that it will be spread better this way because people will be sharing it.

...I donno. It'll be back on youtube sooner or later when the music video is released anyway.

I think the main reason for the youtube removal was to get traffic to V's website that has all the deets and a stream of the song.
