i thought it was her troubles (like twilight) leaving ballet and into music, but finding the music bussiness a struggle as well...

"every time she closed her eyes she saw what could have been" seeing what she could have been if she stayed in ballet.

and she wasn't her happiest during the time she was at that school...

but i guess it could be about losing your virginity...IDK.

of course that makes the whole "don't you try to hold it" verse sound really nasty.

True dat. I agree...

I always thought that Paradise was about leaving ballet

I know she says superhero is about that but I really think Paradise could be too.

It definitely reminds me of my experience of deciding to stop dancing seriously. The whole "one more day in paradise" is like ironic because she thought ballet was her "paradise" but suddenly its not. So its really just one more day of dragging yourself to classes youre supposed to love and putting on that fake ballerina smile while the teacher tells you you are doing everything wrong and all you want to do is kick her in the face. I like to imagine that "what could have been" is her actually kicking the teacher all grande battement style...or just like turning on a boom box and busting out to something non classical in the middle of class...hehee.

hmmm I can't think of any more ties specifically right now.
so...i guess thats my two cents.

LMAO, i've actually done that....not on purpose though

Oooh hell yeah, while we were standing in the corner ready to do split leaps or something my and my ballet chums used to plot about sending our teacher on this programme called "Get Your Own Back" where the adult is dumped in gunge. lmao

all good interpretations..
I enjoyed reading them.
But we all have to see that Vanessa's writing style
is so awkward.  I don't think any of her songs
mean what they seem like.
I am serious bc I always thought that " she floats"
was about being high
* funny by the way nicole on the " she smokes" Bwahaha*

only she knows the answers.
She should explain what all the songs are about on her
next album, like Chantal Kreviazuk did in her limited Edition.

i agree... we might not like the true meaning... besides, the best songwriters are those that conceal the truth behind the melody and let the hearers formulate their own....
how much of a VANESSA CARLTON addict am i?
1. i have four copies of BNN--- one for my bedroom, living room, car and bathroom
2. i bought a very expensive badminton racket just because it was branded "CARLTON"

I would have to give David Hart the credit on that.  He created "she smokes" lol

And it would be cool to know what each song means, but then that takes away from it.  I dunno.. I'm odd.  BUt I do love reading everyone's thoughts on the songs!

I have no idea what "Wonder" is about... I haven't carefully listened to it to know or make a guess.

swindler and carnival
« Reply #44 on: December 17, 2003, 03:14:58 pm »
i think swindler is about a guy that came on the vanessa and wanted to have a sexual relationship but was already married and she also knew the guy well like he was her friend for a couple of year.  and the guy only was talking to her for sex

"hey mister married man I know you"ll come again till you find just what your looking for"

"and now I understand just how you work your plan first your warm and then you just burn"

i think carnival is when vanessa is telling a guy how she feels about their relationship that was once there but then they broke up and she wanted him back!

this is just my opinion!  what are your opinions on swindler and carnvial
PEACE
