Kanye West
« on: January 26, 2004, 04:55:03 pm »
Kanye West is the newest member of Roc-A-Fella, he is a producer/rap artist. His song "Through The Wire" kept growing on me, and today he was on the local hip hop/R&B station for about an hour because he was in town this weekend for Twista's release party. He is actually a really interesting dude.

He says he wants to bring "the love back to hip hop" and wants to be associated with the likes of Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, etc. who are trying to be innovative and that in the game. I didn't know that he helped out with production of such songs as Jay-Z "H to the Izzo", Ludacris "Stand Up" and Alicia Keys "You Don't Know My Name". And of course he is also out there on the song with Twista and Jamie Foxx, "Slow Jamz", which will be on his CD College Dropout which comes out on Feb. 10th.

He seems like a pretty cool guy, just trying to do his thing and that. Not trying to be all ghetto and whatever, but just doing his thing. He has pretty good beats and samples too. I was thinking about buying his CD, but the odds of me buying it have increased tenfold by hearing him flow and talk about his stuff on the radio today, so I figured I'd make a thread for him here.

As always, Best Buy will have Kanye West's CD College Dropout for $9.99 this week when it comes out Tuesday. It sounds like it will be good, it features appearances from Jay-Z, Common, Mos Def, and the Harlem Boys Choir, and of course "Slow Jamz" feat. Twista and Kanye's current single, "Through The Wire."

I went and got Kanye's CD today. People were straight tearin' it UP. I got there at 1:30 and the front display was damn near empty, lol.

That said, the CD itself is pink, LOL. I was like "Kanye why is your CD pink!?!?!?!?!?!" ... and he's dressed like a red mascot bear on the cover of the CD, so he looks like that dude who always wears the Tigger suit on Rap City and calls himself the Real Big Tigger, lol.

Yeah it is pretty good. There are too many little skits, but Kanye has some good songs on there. The song with Kweli and Common is the shiznat. The dopest song on the CD.

Yeah, he's been behind the scenes for AGES hasn't he? I'm glad he finally has a chance to shine because he's really talented. 'Through The Wire' is a really good song, that has a message behind it too- i expect you've seen the video, hehe.

But yeah, big up Kayne West because he's straight forward and not awfully silly like the rest of hip hop seems to be at the moment.

Ok, I saw him tonight and was totally blown away by his performance. I went to Pepsi Smash and saw him, Switchfoot, Sugarcult, Alicia Keys and Christina Milian and he was probably the least of the people I wanted to see... but I came out a new fan of him and he was BY FAR the best performance tonight! He's awesome live!!! He performed "Through The Wire" (that violin girl was there), "Jesus Walks" (one of the top performances EVER on Pepsi Smash I think) and that was supposed to be it... but even though we were all exhausted was wanted to hear more! I have never seen fans at Pepsi Smash want to hear another song from an artist this much in all of the 9 tapings I went to! We caused a mini riot screaming and banging on things... so we got him to do "All Falls Down" as well. Then we started another riot (and can I point out that we had been there for like 6 hours and before Kanye came on all we wanted to do was go home cause we were exhausted) to get Kanye to perform again cause we still hadnt had enough. He talked it over with the piano player and looked like he was going to do something... but then the producers came out and started taking the equipment out so they couldnt. I guess they had to have us out of there by a certain time and we had run over...
anyways, yeah, there's something about him live. He's GOOD!!! [/b]
