ANNIE

Watch her as she flew
Deep within the blue
A day out from the county ICU
There’s nothing you can do
Someone gently says to you
The doctor says now it won’t be long
Try and live up to the moment
And I hope that I don’t blow it
What is it in my that she hears?
It’s just a song she likes
Her little arms around my neck
And a dying girl whispers in my ear…

Tell me now can you feel it?
I’ve been keeping company with ghosts

She comes to me like a piece of summer
She come to me on the days when I need it most
Well summer dies and nothing lasts forever
You’re so fine the way you stand up to your fears
Summer dies and it’s just moments we had together
I’d give my bones for you to get a few more years
For you and I
Oh Annie
More to life than trying to survive
Oh Annie

My boyfriend took pictures of me as I held you
I’m traveling now and the loneliness brings me to tears
Summer dies and it’s just moments we had together
I’d give my bones for you to get a few more years
For you and I
Oh Annie
More to life than trying to survive
Oh Annie

Stronger than the hands that hold you
You sing along to the song on the radio
If I drank too much and I am reckless
Just this once would you forgive this sin?

Hold on in days gone by
Tell me now can you feel it?
I can’t keep this all to myself
She’s elegant
And she means it more

Years for you and I
More to life than trying to survive
Oh Annie

Watch her as the flew deep into the blue
Watch her as she slips away from you

I’ll keep fingers crossed always for you

This is such a sad song!! but it's really good, and the lyrics are meaningful. They remind me of my friend Ashley, who died on her 17th birthday from cancer.
"i'm willing to do anything
to calm the storm in my heart
i've never been the praying kind
but lately i've been down upon my knees
not looking for a miracle
just a reason to believe"

Well, since we're talking about the meaning of Annie, I might as well float this question: What do y'all think she's referring to when she says "I'd give my bones for you to get a few more years"? I just thought it symbolized her devotion to Annie (as it's no small thing to give one's bones), but my sister brought up the idea that perhaps Annie has lukemia, which apparently is sometimes cured by a bone marrow transfusion. 8O

interesting theory... i just thought it meant because she's so devoted to Annie and she would give her something she needs so bad just for her to live longer... i this case, her bones. *shrug*

either way.... this song makes me want to bawl my eyes out. it's so sad and the melody is just BEAUTIFUL.

I was always more caught up by the piano in the song, but the lyrics are really meaningful if you actually pay attention to them, lol.

Such a beautiful song.

I think this is my fave song on the album (i know I said "who's to say" in the other thread, but i changed my mind). it gets better everytime I hear about it...
Just an idea... maybe ATR can do a fundraising thing for a children's hospital (or leukemia research if this is in fact what the song is about). We can call it "project Annie" or something like that...

hey i think someone said something in another thread about "the day out from the county I see you" possibly being "the day out from the county ICU" as in intensive care unit. I agree about it being the latter. i think it fits with the song.

this song makes me bawl my eyes out whenever i listen to it now.... i once read a true story called "what was good about today" about a little girl named Sara who has leukemia and dies, and it kind of reminded me of the book. But it makes me cry because what she's singing about is really happening to kids everywhere right now.....
