General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: What the hell is that??
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:53:03 pm »
I'm kind of surprised that V hasn't tweeted about this, but you guys might be right in that SHE doesn't even know about it. I don't see how they could make a "Greatest Hits" Album from just the two records that they own. They definitely need to put some unreleased material on there. Oh, you know what bugs me about the cover? It doesn't even have V's signature Victorian lettering. It's just so..... generic. Plus, it basically just reused Harmonium's picture. Ughhh. I want to be optimistic about this, but in reality, I think it's just going to be recycled tracks from BNB and Harmonium.  :-\

General Vanessa Carlton Discussion / Re: How you want/imagine "Rabbits"

I think a black and white cover would suit this album. I would also love if she put "Waltz" on there! Or other instrumentals. Don't get me wrong, V, is a great lyricist and singer, but I would also love some instrumental versions of her songs, like "Half a Week Before The Winter." I love the piano-only version that she plays live with the introduction and everything.

I don't know about you guys, but for me I like the live versions of "I Don't Wanna Be A Bride" "Carousel" "Tall Tales For Spring" "London" "Fair-Weather Friends" just the way they are. I kind of hope that she doesn't add a lot of drums or anything on the studio versions. I think that would kind of ruin them for me. That's what happened with "Heroes & Thieves" for me. There's an acoustic version out there on YouTube, and I really liked that version, and then when the album version came out, she added a lot of strings and drums, and, I don't know, but they just kind of took something away from the song, in my opinion. "Tall Tales For Spring" sounded great as "Waltz" with just the piano and violin too.

I dunno... I really love Vanessa songs when they're simple and raw like that, I think they have such a stripped-down, emotional feel to them that way, but I am really curious to see the fully produced versions! I love intricate instrumentals that you can't really achieve live without an orchestra live, and I think there's a unique beauty in those additions in her studio versions. I would love to hear what other sorts of unique instrumentals she's added in to the album that she can't create with just her piano! I think it just adds another layer to Vanessa's vision and musical style.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but still, I get kind of used to the songs with just her and her piano (and sometimes guitar) and then when the studio versions come out, I prefer the original live versions. Let's just hope for the best! I can't wait until Spring 2011! I'm pumped!  ;D :D

^ "All Is Well" was recorded during the 'H&T' sessions already. Same with "Best Behavior".

If they haven't leaked by now, I doubt we'll get them ever. :( Unless she uses them on future albums ... but that depends on who has the rights to the songs.

for the unreleased heroes & thieves era songs, bmi.com says
Universal is a publisher for All is Well
as well as Best Behavior (also co-wrote by stephan jenkins)
and Wave Goodbye (Linda perry co-wrote)

I would love for them to be released.. we'll just have to wait and see.

I've never quoted someone before, so I hope I did it right!
"Wave Goodbye"???!?!?!!?!?! I've never heard of that one before! Is it on YouTube? I would really love a studio version of Best Behavior too!

Oh wow, I just saw the new website! Does it remind anyone else of ribbons for ballet slippers? That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw them, and since she's a ballerina, I figured that made sense. ;D

My favorite Vanessa song to listen to is probably Home. My favorite song to play on the piano has to be Half a Week Before the Winter. It just sounds so haunting! I think some of the new songs from Rabbits on the Run are probably going to overtake those, though!   ;) ;D :D  I can't wait for Spring 2011! I just can't say it enough!

Introduce Yourself / Hi There!
« on: October 23, 2010, 04:48:47 pm »
Hi everyone! I'm Aubrie. I am new to the Nessaholics site, but I've been a fan for about four years now. :D
I learned to play the piano mostly to be able to play Vanessa's songs! Hahaha, but I've started to learn others now.
I've never been to a concert, but I plan to go to one if she comes to So Cal on her next tour for Rabbits on the Run. I cannot wait for that album!!! The live versions I've heard of Carousel (sooooooo pretty!), Tall Tales for Spring (reminds me of Harmonium), I Don't Wanna Be a Bride (I like the guitar), London, and Fair-Weather Friends sound great. I can't imagine how they can sound any better on CD!

Oh, I'm also a pretty obsessive The Fray fan as wells as a VC fan. :) I love good music.
