"[The director] wants to name it Pleased To Meet You: Vanessa Carlton, the New American Goth."

And she mentions Wicca!

1. Wicca is not suppose to be dark.
2. my parents are going to kill me if i buy another album that has a goth feel.
3. Dark is my writing style...well dark, but not too heavy.
4. I wish they'd put the video on the cd, not with the CD. because I probably can't get both.
5. Nessa is freaking me out, and I am suprised A&M is giving her so much freedom.
6. Thank you for reading.

I agree: dark, goth, WTF?!?!!
Don't think this is really her anymore...oh well, I shouldn't judge before we get the songs, maybe it'll turn out to be very good.
And YAY about the dvd! I'm excited about that :)

For some reason, I am thinking that 'gothic' isn't exactly the right word.

I know I haven't even heard the music, but still, I am justtttt thinking this.. in my head.. and now I'm typing it.

ya.

I think when she means dark she means like "She Floats" is dark and peeps love that and so do I. It's dark when compared to the chipper bouncy "1000 Miles". I can't wait to here the album!

Hehe. Big changes eh? I guess TRL is a thing of the past then.

The "She Floats" we have isn't what I'd consider Goth, sure it's depressing, but that alone doesn't make it Goth. So I guess that song is either changed quite a bit or the word Goth is being used losely (at least as far as the sound rather than the subject matter). Hopefully the latter. I take heart from the fact that uncompromising artistic direction like this IS the way to a long term career. Whether or not it's a career I'll want to follow remains to be seen. Probably best to let the music speak for itself and not a goth tag. At the very least it will be interesting to see how this pans out :)

Mysterious times indeed for the Vanessa Carlton fan.

Who's got the corpse paint and boot spikes? ;)

-Kev

Edit: I've just gone back and listened to "She Floats" and actually is pretty Goth. I stand corrected.

I wonder if Afterglow will make it. Probably not as it's not dark at all?

Interesting, not sure exactly what i think about it but i'm sure it will be nothing short of spectacular.  I've actually been really into songs that are dark... kinda gothic lately, i mean ppl can relate to songs like that though they may not cheer you up, i enjoy listening to music i can relate to.  Anyway, i'm excited for the DVD as everyone else is too!
