ready for a new video, and i don't understand..
« on: December 13, 2004, 07:44:46 am »
I am really ready for a new video. Especially a "Private Radio" video. Are we getting a new video? Anytime soon? Does anyone know? I think it's time. The White Houses video premiered just a little over four months ago. Maybe I am just impatient.

Also, I don't understand how at amazon.com most everyone gives her album 5 stars, and Harmonium's average is 4.5, but she isn't selling well. I guess there are more people not rating than rating. I hope this doesn't discourage Vanessa.

But I'm definately ready for some new creativity put into a video.

The problem is that sales aren't linked to quality. I could name you a hundred 4 or 5 star non-pop records on Amazon that are selling a fraction of even Harmonium. Sales are, more than anything else, linked to promotion. It doesn't matter (in a purely commercial sense) whether everybody who listens to the album thinks it's great, if hardly anybody hears it. People are generally too lazy to find good music, if the media doesn't drop it into their laps, they won't bother with it.

She said on Saturday that the new video and single will be out in January. She said it would be either "Private Radio" or another song. I recommended "Who's To Say" to her and her assistant.

I'm just glad she is mentioning that she will be coming out with a new single. People need to know these things so they can request to their radio stations, etc.  :)

I don't think that Private Radio would be the best choice for the next single.  After the White houses disaster I think Who's to Say is really the only song on Harmonium that would do well on the mainstream radio.

They'd have to cut it, though. It's much too long to hold an indifferent listener's attention.

That's what people said about White Houses.  "Oh, it's so catchy..."  catchy schmetchy.

Nat: You're right, they would have to cut it down a little, it's almost 5 minutes long.  But, ATM and OD weren't that much shorter.

it definately should be PRIVATE RADIO. Who's To Say is amazing, but we've come to learn that Vanessa's success with radio and a general audience comes from something catchy. That is Private Radio. I like them both, but I always listen to Private Radio. It's just fun to listen to. I think a general audience would rather hear it. Who's To Say is slower than Pretty Baby, and that didn't do well. But who knows. Everyone I've talked to loves Who's To Say. I just say if it were up to me, I honestly believe Private Radio would be more successful and grab more people's attention.
