I totally get where you're coming from, and yes, Green Day are pretty outspoken- not only about politics, but about just about everything under the sun. But American Idiot, the album, is really their only political statement musically. And the album really isn't that political, only a few songs- the album is made to be a "punk rock opera" and follows the life of the main character, Jesus of Suburbia. It's set in the climate of the Bush Jr. era and such to give their political viewpoints, but also to show that it’s like modern-day life for a teenager- ie modern day relationships, drug problems, etc; then Green Day sort of take shots at Bush. But they're definitely not anti-American, just anti-Bush and anti-war. I hope i didn't come across as like snooty or something saying that...and I totally respect where you're coming from, no one should give you crap about it.
